I have recently taken an interest in beer brewing. I worked in Stockport for a year so have been to Robinsons a few times now and absolutely love their beers especially Old Tom.
I also went to Guinness last year on a day trip to Dublin, although it was so swarming with Yanks, the queue to get in was unbelievable and a really dear do to boot so I gave it a swerve in the end.
But anyway I have started buying beers from Old Tap Brewery on Ashworth Lane and today I had a bike ride up to Rivington Brewing Company and bought a box of 10 cans to take away. It's fantastic up there by the way, it would be an amazing place to go for a drink in summer under normal circumstances, they have a brilliant outdoor drinking area with stunning views of Rivington reservoir.
I know that ultimately you're paying twice as much for the sort of beers you could get from Asda, it just feels good to put money into local business pockets for a change, and obviously there's a novelty to supping from a bottle that's "Brewed in Bolton".

I'm really keen to try out other places like this in the Lancashire / Greater Manchester area. Can anybody recommend any?

Failing that, just share your personal experiences with visits to breweries whether it's Bolton, Cornwall, Prague, Saudi Arabia, etc.

If you ever venture as far as Warrington, try The Hop Emporium. Nice little micro pub.

Alphabet and Seven Brothers are both based in Ancoats and have a shop you can order from and collect but i tend to order online and get it delivered. With the new restrictions coming in this is likely to be your best bet i think.

Shindigger and Cloudwater breweries are good as well i've been told but not tried them myself as yet.

Obvious question Doff. Does your bicycle have a basket on the front? Smile

As Smokey would have said. "I Second That Emotion."
Been several times and it's excellent. It's a smart pub where all the beers on tap are brewed downstairs in the cellar. Plenty of variety and all the ones I have sampled have been excellent.
