Luton Town have U-turned on their decision to leave Peter Kioso on loan at Bolton Wanderers for the season.

The Championship club this morning invoked a clause in the wing-back’s contract to take him back to Kenilworth Road immediately.

The decision has apparently been sparked after an injury to full-back James Bree, who was taken off in the Hatters’ FA Cup victory against Reading on Saturday.

But it comes just a few days after manager Nathan Jones said he would be leaving Kioso at Bolton for the foreseeable. “What Peter went out for was so that when he comes back into the building, he’ll be closer to the first team," he told Hatters Today.

“We fully expect him to play first-team games for Luton, it’s how he gets there.

“Now loans are part and parcel, so either we keep him in the environment, and he develops here, or he goes out and gets games – we felt that was needed.

“He has gone to a good place, with a good manager, with a good environment, so we’re very happy with that.

“The only reason we would shorten that loan is if he’s going to come into our team.

"We’re very happy with Peter and very happy with his progression and the place he’s at.”

Wanderers will now be forced into a reshuffle for their game at Exeter City on Tuesday night, with Gethin Jones or Harry Brockbank likely to fill in on the right side.

Kioso had been a key man for Ian Evatt since his arrival in mid-October, making 14 appearances and scoring three goals.

"Naturally we are disappointed that Luton have recalled Peter, but it indicates just how well he has progressed with us," Evatt said.

"Since his arrival, he has had such a positive impact on our squad both on and off the pitch.

"There is no doubt that he as a bright future in the game and we wish him well.”

Kioso has also become a popular figure with supporters and last week it was revealed by local refuge Fortalice that the 21-year-old had donated gifts to help residents who had been affected by domestic abuse.

Kioso's departure should, however, leave room for Evatt to seek a replacement - or divert the funds into strengthening another area in his squad.

Hopefully we already have some names to look at. It was already rumoured it could happen, before Luton said they weren’t going to.

That's a blow as he's looked good down the right. It may now force Evatts hand in going back to a flat back 4 with Jones/Brockbank at RB and John at LB.

Shame, he's not the best player I've ever seen but had a physical presence about him we really lack at the moment. I quite like Jones, although he's not as good going forward. LWB is a priority now.

I wonder if his move to Luton is a comment on his future of Bolton, rather than his wanting to play in League 1. It won't be helpful if they go down. Surely, he must have been given the option of going back to Bolton, so why didn't he?

If it wasn't for bad luck we would have no luck.

Can't blame the lad for playing in a higher division rather than the pub team league.

Despite what others think, attracting quality players here is a bigger problem than meets the eye.

It should not be that way but that is how far we have spiraled down unfortunately.
