Totally agree if people think we are to good to go down look at notts county favourites to win league and relegated what if Doyle gets a injury and is out for a couple of month

Wanderers never had the opportunity for a quick response at Mansfield Town during the week following the postponement of the fixture due to a frozen pitch. Ian Evatt’s men are still in search of a first win of 2021 and will be hoping to achieve that this weekend.

Orient have blown hot and cold during recent weeks and a defeat to Forest Green Rovers last time out came following a run of three consecutive wins. Although prior to those wins, came a trio of successive defeats. Better at home than they are on the road, the Londoners will be aiming for a third win in four matches this weekend.


Last time out:

The last meeting between the two teams proved to be one to forget for Wanderers who went down to a 4-0 defeat at the Breyer Group Stadium in October.

Billy Crellin saved a spot kick from Danny Johnson after just a couple of minutes, although the Orient frontman opened the scoring after eight minutes. Free-kicks from Jobi McAnuff and Conor Wilkinson put the hosts three goals to the good at the interval.

On a miserable afternoon for Ian Evatt’s men, Craig Clay scored from distance to put the icing on the cake for Leyton Orient.

Ahead of this afternoon's fixture, we have profiled three players who have played for both Bolton Wanderers and Leyton Orient.

Adam Chicksen

With Wanderers for the first half of last season, the left-sided defender made his debut in Keith Hill’s first match in charge – a 6-1 defeat at Rotherham United in September 2019.

Playing his last game for the club in a 2-0 defeat to Rochdale in January 2020, the Zimbabwe international made a total of 20 appearances for the club before earning his next move in September of the same year when he signed for National League side Notts County.

Coming through the ranks at MK Dons, Chicksen made his professional debut in August 2008 and made close to a century of appearances before a permanent move to Brighton & Hove Albion shortly after a 2012 loan spell at Leyton Orient. He made 3 appearances for the Os in January 2012.

During three years at the Amex Stadium, he had loan spells with Gillingham, Fleetwood Town and another with Orient in 2015 when he made a further 6 appearances. Prior to his 2019 move to the University of Bolton Stadium, he spent time under contract at both Charlton Athletic and Bradford City.


Nicky Hunt

At 37 years of age, Hunt is at the back end of his playing career and is currently with National League North outfit Darlington. The Westhoughton-born full-back came through the ranks with Wanderers and made his professional debut in a 1-1 Division One draw with Sheffield United in May 2001, going onto make 161 appearances (1 goal) for the club.

Leaving Bolton to sign for Bristol City in August 2010, he spent 18 months at Ashton Gate before a brief stint at Preston North End. Going onto have spells at Rotherham United, Accrington Stanley and Mansfield Town, he signed for Leyton Orient on a free transfer in February 2016.

Hunt was successful during his 18 months in East London, and he made a total of 54 appearances (1 goal) before signing for Notts County in August 2017. After a season at Meadow Lane, he spent two years at Crewe Alexandra before his move to Darlington in July of last year.


Paul Rachubka

American-born Manchester United academy graduate Paul Rachubka signed for Charlton Athletic in 2002 and spent a couple of years at the Valley before a move to Huddersfield Town following a successful loan spell with the Terriers.

Spending two and-a-half years with the West Yorkshire club, he would spend the next four years with Blackpool (2007-2011) making over a century of appearances before a spell with Leeds United. Featuring rarely for United, Rachubka had loan stints with Tranmere Rovers, Accrington Stanley and Leyton Orient and with the Os he made 8 appearances during the second half of the 2011/12 season.

Following two years at Oldham Athletic (2013-2015) and brief spell with Crewe Alexandra, he signed for Bolton Wanderers in September 2015 and made 8 appearances before finishing his career with spells at Bury and Kerala Blasters.

6 changes is a lot even for Evatt!

That looks a very lightweight midfield.

Best we've played in a long time, and it's no exaggeration that it could have been 6 or 7.

Good performance, not perfect by any means but much better. In possession we got the ball forward quickly and that gave our forward players more space before Orient got set - and when Brockbank and Jackson pushed on we had plenty of crossing chances - too many of which were wasted.

Not convinced a Lee/Thomason midfield would stand up to a more physical battle but in this game they did quite well. Baptiste was the standout performer for me, read the game well and stood up when we needed him too. Delf also had his best game in months and Arthur has made himself undroppable at the moment. All about building momentum now.

Every week I’ve been wondering if it was finally going to come together and although today was far from the real deal, it went some way towards restoring my confidence that it will.
Some of the build up play was very easy on the eye but for a long time it looked like we’d never score - at least we were creating quality chances for a change.
Baptiste was surprisingly good but it’s obvious we can’t have Santos injured. Evatts signings look good apart from Elbouzedi who was crap near goal, but at least we seem to have the makings of a competitive side.
Need to consolidate on that performance now and you never know - we might just get somewhere this season.

Yes, that was much better. However, we won't get away with missing so many chances every week. 
We need to build on this, but I've said that before and been sadly disappointed.

It’s a great result and 3 points I didn’t expect. Coming off the back of a win and learning from things they did well gives me a little more confidence. I’d just like to see a settled team that are used to playing together which will breed consistency.

Agree with all the above, Baptiste and Santos played well, we created so many chances how Delf misses the first one god knows, but he did play better, on another day 6 would have been fair, and we played for 90 minutes. IF we can build on that who knows what will happen. Arthur needs to play he can create chances for fun.

We were definitely better today but I’m still appalled by the number of gilt edged chances we squandered. This was probably the weakest team we’ve played and on another day we’d have paid for missing so much so I’m not getting carried away. It’s a start after a poor run but we need to go to Mansfield now and win that too to get a run going. Santos and Baps standout performers today but I do wish that Isgrove would look up occasionally to see where team mates are before crossing and maybe now and again he’ll miss the first defender?

Report: Bolton Wanderers 2-0 Leyton Orient


Bolton Wanderers claimed victory after a domineering display against Leyton Orient at the University of Bolton Stadium.

After a goalless first-half, Wanderers enjoyed a clinical second 45 with an own-goal from James Brophy and a pinpoint finish by leading goalscorer Eoin Doyle giving the hosts all three points.

Ian Evatt’s men could have scored six or seven on another day and fully deserved a clean sheet on a freezing cold day.

The Wanderers manager made six changes to the team as they looked to pick up their first maximum of 2021.

Kieran Lee returned to the team after missing last weekend's defeat at Tranmere Rovers and Antoni Sarcevic was absent with a groin injury.

Zack Elbouzedi and Andrew Tutte dropped to the bench while Nathan Delfouneso and Arthur Gnahoua came into the starting line-up to partner stand-in captain Eoin Doyle in a forward three.

At the back, Harry Brockbank slotted in at right-back ahead of Gethin Jones, with Alex Baptiste joining him in the back four in place of the suspeneded Ryan Delaney.

Wanderers started brightly during the opening stages with Gnahoua and Lloyd Isgrove both have half-chances.

Lawrence Vigouroux made a vital point blank save to keep out Delfouneso after Gnahoua’s ball from the left found the frontman with only the Orient ‘keeper to beat.

Brockbank conceded a free kick in a dangerous area when he was penalised for a foul on Conor Wilkinson. Jobi McAnuff though was wayward his set-piece and the opportunity went begging.

Wanderers suffered more misfortune in front of goal when Isgrove was unable to get a firm touch on Gnahoua’s right-sided centre. The ball spun off Sam Ling and into the arms of Vigouroux.

Vigouroux then made a finger tip save to keep out a 25-yarder from Doyle who lost his marker with a sublime turn.

The hosts ended the half by laying siege to the Orient goal but were unable to find a way past Vigouroux before the referee's whistle.

Early in the second half Dan Kemp drove low and wide from distance as the visitors made a rare incursion in Wanderers territory.

Matt Gilks dived wide to keep out a tame effort from Hector Kyprianou as the forward met Wilkinson’s pass.

Shortly afterwards, Ruel Sotiriou should have done better with a near post header from a far sided corner that was whipped in by James Brophy.

Wanderers put themselves in front after 67 minutes through an own-goal by Brophy, turning Nathan Delfouneso's low cross past his own 'keeper under pressure from Harry Brockbank.

One became two just a couple of minutes later when Doyle expertly finished from distance to claim his tenth goal of the campaign after some great play by Gnahoua.

The Irishman almost claimed his second when his near post header from Isgrove’s corner was cleared off his own line by Vigouroux.

Doyle was hungry for more and took a ball on the turn but fired over from distance after a good run by Delfouneso.

Evatt made a double change with just over ten minutes remaining when Elbouzedi and John came on for Isgrove and Jackson.

McAnuff’s deflected shot from distance went for a corner as Orient looked for a way back into the game.

Gilks spotted Elbouzedi in space and sent the Irishman on his way towards goal. His effort though came off a defender and went for a corner.

The victory proved sweet and provided a perfect boost ahead of the imminent away trips to Mansfield and Salford City.
