We have profiled three players who have played for both Bolton Wanderers and Salford City.
Mark Howard
Signed by Wanderers in the summer of 2016 following his release by Sheffield United, Howard spent two seasons at the University of Bolton Stadium under the management of Phil Parkinson.
The experienced stopper made 29 appearances during the League One promotion season of 2016/17, and just 10 appearances the following campaign as Wanderers retained Championship status on the final day of the season with a dramatic victory against Nottingham Forest. Howard came on as a half-time substitute for Ben Alnwick on that day.
A trainee at Arsenal many years ago, Howard enjoyed spells up and down the British Isles, featuring for Falkirk, Cardiff City, St. Mirren and Aberdeen before signing for Blackpool in September 2011. After a season at Bloomfield Road (2011/12), he signed for Sheffield United and made 104 appearances for the club during a four-year stay.
Following his departure from Bolton in the summer of 2018, he returned to Blackpool and spent two years with the Tangerines before signing for Scunthorpe United on a free transfer last month. His spell at Salford City was a loan from Blackpool between October and November of 2019. He made three appearances for the club.
Jason Lowe
A consistent performer for Wanderers during two incredibly difficult seasons, Lowe went onto captain the football club playing under both Phil Parkinson, Jimmy Phillips and Keith Hill.
Signed following his departure from Birmingham City ahead of the 2018/19 season, the former Blackburn Rovers midfielder made a total of 71 appearances for the club before his departure and eventual move to Salford City during the summer.
A hard working central midfielder, Lowe has made 27 appearances for Salford at the time of writing and could well be in line to face Wanderers tomorrow.
The Leigh-born 29 year-old came through the ranks at Ewood Park to make his first team debut in January 2011 and he would go onto make 196 appearances (1 goal) for Rovers before signing for Harry Redknapp’s Birmingham in August 2017.
Making just 11 appearances for the Blues, he moved back to his North West roots in July 2018 signing for the Wanderers.
Dennis Politic
Currently on the road to recovery after sustaining an ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) in a pre-season fixture against Loughborough University, the 20 year-old Romanian winger had a loan spell with Salford City in the National League before making his first team bow for the Wanderers.
Politic caught the eye during his time at the Peninsula Stadium, scoring twice in 11 appearances between October 2018 and February 2019. The personal highlight of his time with the club would be a goal scored from the halfway line in a 3-1 home defeat to Dover Athletic.
Prior to his injury. the academy graduate had broken into the Bolton team and he made 30 appearances (5 goals) last season for the club.
