I suspect they're all completely fictitious, but, as ever, we don't know for sure!

If all this is based on the happenstance that they stopped writing calendars on a certain date it really is a load of crap.

Today is the 12th day of the 12th month of 2012. It should all start going downhill from today.

My bunker is now complete. The innocuous looking round tin shed hides a trapdoor leading to an underground bunker. If things go wrong it could be my new home for a long time to come.

Apparently, in the dark ages, millions of pieces of Mayan literature was destroyed by the Mexican government - there are records of this happening. there are 2 surviving pieces in a museum.

And yes, believe it or not it contains details maps of the movements of stars and planets among stories of a great disaster and 'gods' coming back to earth...

I want to think its a load of bullshit all this, but reading in to it all a bit more, combined with all the stuff happening at the moment (earthquakes, famine, war etc) its starting to make me think a little bit.

you have to admit, these Mayans knew a lot more than we give them credit for - where did that knowledge come from?

Apparently, the end of the Mayan calender does not talk about the end of the world as such, but the beginning of a 'new era' or age in which the 'gods' return.

I suppose we will find out by Christmas...

Unfortunately space is at a premium. It only has one room which is roughly 20 by 15 and a separate small room for toilet duties.
