Gethin Jones says he is in no rush to get his new deal rubber-stamped after getting an assurance from Evatt that he would be staying with the club.

“The gaffer has already spoken to me about triggering the clause,” he said. “We’ll see what happens and obviously we have got six or seven weeks now to sort all that out.”

Jones believes a defensive line which conceded just 17 goals in 26 games since the start of the year can work as effectively in League One.

With Wanderers looking to re-sign Declan John, Alex Baptiste set to sign another 12 month deal, and Ricardo Santos still under contract, the Liverpudlian says he will be only to happy to link up once again.

“It has been unbelievable playing with them,” he said. “For the full-backs, me and Declan, Brocky (Harry Brockbank) and Jacko (Ben Jackson) we just get to bomb forward knowing that Rico and Baps and Gillo (Matt Gilks) have got the experience.

“Rico is an absolute brick wall, and he is rapid as well, so for him to be beside me helps me so much.

“I’m just grateful that we’ve all stuck together all season and we haven’t got on top of each other and moaned at each other - we’ve stuck together knowing that the process is going to work and it has in the end.”

Jones also believes Wanderers will take their place among the bigger clubs in League One next season.

“It is going to be unbelievable,” he said. “The big teams are in there and Bolton’s a massive team. It really shouldn’t have been in the situation it was anyway. But we are back up there now so I’m looking forward for next season.”
