Wanderers Land Wales International Midfielder

The club is delighted to announce that Wales international Josh Sheehan is the latest player to join Bolton Wanderers ahead of our forthcoming Sky Bet League One campaign after signing a two-year deal, subject to international clearance.

The 26 year-old midfielder played 53 games in all competitions for Newport County last season, including the Exiles’ two victories against Wanderers.

Having started his career with Swansea City, he joined Yeovil Town on loan before signing for Newport in 2016.

During his four-year tenure at Rodney Parade he made 179 appearances, finding the net on 15 occasions.

Last season he helped County reach the play-off finals where they narrowly lost to Morecambe at Wembley.

He was named in the PFA’s League Two Team of the Year alongside new teammates Eoin Doyle and Ricardo Almeida Santos last week and has two international caps for his country.

“I’m delighted to sign for such a big club with the ambitions they have,” the midfielder told bwfc.co.uk.

“That’s one of the reasons why I joined. I want to be part of the journey they are on and get Bolton Wanderers back to where they belong.

“When speaking with the manager he expressed his desire to sign me and told me his ambitions, and that really attracted me to be part of it.

“Also his style of football and the way he wants to play suits me so I feel it’s a good match.

“I can’t wait to play in front of the Bolton Wanderers fans. Even before it was announced I had loads of messages from them!  I think this just shows the size of the fan base at this club.”

Wanderers Manager Ian Evatt added: “Josh is a player I have tracked and known about for a long time and I am delighted to have signed him. He’s very good technically and is an intelligent and excellent footballer. He’s a Welsh international who has had a great season with Newport, who he has captained and he was also named in the PFA Team of the Year.

“He will add quality and competition to our very strong midfield area and I’m looking forward to working with him.

Remember rating him when we played Newport, and sounds like another solid signing to me.

Need to find a striker or two now.

..and a LB or two, but otherwise we're shaping up to be a competitive team.
Still scratching my head about who Evatt might sign to get us the goals we'll need because Doyler apart we're not really blessed with natural goalscorers - and if he gets injured I can envisage a lot of possession and running around and not much end product.
Given the cost of quality strikers maybe a loanee or two?

I presume he'll be competing with Sarcevic for the no10 role? Glad to see Evatt is getting his players in early but we could do with another striker.

Like Troy i thought he played really well against us at Newport, looks very comfortable on the ball and drives forward, three good permanent signings, two left backs a striker and a GK and we are starting from a strong base.

I’d have thought it would be more Lee he’d compete with than Sarce Norpig but you may be right, I suppose they will both have to be on their toes, including young George as well but good to have competition for places or for injury.

Like Wander, I think strikers may be loans because they’re probably the most expensive but you never know with IE’s ability to convince players to come, they might be permanents. Also, if he’s looking at a moneyball system, then bringing unrealised potential he can sell on later, would indicate signings rather than loans. Either way we do need at least one goal scorer to replace Miller.

A midfielder who can chip in with a few goals is essential for any team these days and this lad strikes me as a really good signing. And at 26 he's likely to just be coming into his peak. I know we still need at least one striker but I'm seriously encouraged by what's happening this summer already. Remember the days when we were sat here all summer wondering if anyone was ever going to sign for us? It seems IE and his staff are finding a whole bunch of at least solid additions to the squad and I have faith for the first time in years that by the start of next season we'll have all the players we need to be genuinely competitive.
