Ok, so someone breaks into your house tonight, smacks you about a bit, sets fire to your Playboy collection and pisses on your best Take That t-shirt......just to show he could.

Would you be happy if the police didn't arrest him?

That's not the same Nat, there is malicious intent there. I'm certain that this guy did it just to prove to his mates he could, he had no intention of causing any 'terror' ...

If I had a huge server, paid the best minds in the world millions to develop a firewall for it... then it got hacked by some kid having a laugh - firstly, id see the weakness that was exploited in the first place as the major threat, not the kid, my IT bods would be punished for it.

The fact that he is not being extradited does not mean that he will escape prosecution. As a resident there is no reason why he cannot be charged and put before a British court. He committed the offences from England so that is where he should be tried.

But the place where the crime took place - where the computer he hacked into - was on American soil, the computer belonging to the American Government.

Surely as the crime was against them, on their soil, then would it not make sense that he is subject to their laws?

Seems a reasonable premise to me.

so basically, you would throw him to the dogs and let them kill him?

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time!

what if he was your son and you knew he was just a bloody good computer geek having a bit of fun and had no intentions of causing any carnage?

the pentagon are stupid enough for allowing themselves to be hacked by a kid in a bedroom if im honest...

Rebel, you can't hack the Pentagon with a ZX Spectrum, you need proper equipment.

In theory, he could have put thousands of lives at risk. He's not as daft as he makes out is our Gary.

Let's see how the trial pans out in the UK then we will get the full picture of the scale of his computer tomfoolery.

The fact is he did just use a normal everyday computer - off-the-shelf from Curry's or PC world. It just goes to show how pathetic the Pentagon and US armed forces system actually were.

Another fact is if it had been the other way (i.e. an American hacking into UK system) then it wouldn't have taken this long because 1) the US do not extradite people to other countries for crimes emminating from US soil and 2) he would have already been tried and sentenced through their judiciary system.

One thing people have to remember here is that people with Aspergers Syndrome can be all good an knowing one day and then the next not realising what they are doing is wrong, plus with Asperbers once they have a focus on their mind then they will do naything to indulge on that focus and get as much information as possible through any means - not realising the damage they could be doing.

Another thing we have to be careful here, yes he has admitted the charges, but does he fully understand the charges and what they mean? Many a time in the past people have owned up not fully understanding their actions and have been gaoled only for their sentences to be overturned later on because of not fully understanding.
