Ian Evatt: Stockport defeat shows how important MJ Williams is 13217760

Ian Evatt says Wanderers' FA Cup defeat against Stockport County highlights the importance of MJ Williams.

Williams has become a vital member of Evatt’s starting XI since arriving at the UniBol on a free transfer earlier this year.

The Welsh midfielder missed the trip to Edgeley Park due to illness, and Evatt felt he would have made a big difference against the Hatters.

“Sometimes MJ’s type of player isn’t the most appreciated by supporters,” said the Bolton boss.

“Not that we it to happen in any way, shape or form but that (result) highlights what MJ brings to this team and the squad of players.

“We missed him dearly, there’s no two ways about it. We haven’t got another MJ, we haven’t got another Gethin Jones either, or another Eoin Doyle.

“But we’ve got what we’ve got and we have to make the best out of it.”

The Bolton boss also commented on Scott Robertson’s stamp on Elias Kachunga in Wanderers’ 2-0 victory against Crewe last week.

The incident – which left Kachunga with a deep ‘gauge’ in his calf – happened in the 83rd minute but was not seen by referee James Bell.

The Celtic loanee has since been handed a three-game ban and Evatt admits he was surprised it wasn’t longer.

“I thought it was very, very poor,” he added. “I’m actually shocked it was only a three-game ban to be honest.

“Not the type of thing I want to see on any football pitch.”
