Omicron: Bolton fans must produce vaccine pass to attend games 13280984

Wanderers fans will now need to show proof of double vaccination or a negative Covid test to attend games at the University of Bolton Stadium.

As of Friday, the government has tightened restrictions on outdoor crowds of more than 10,000 people because of the spread of the Omicron variant.

Saturday’s game against Accrington does not come under that criteria but Wanderers will need to introduce the measures for the following weekend’s home clash with Wycombe on December 18 and beyond.

Wanderers have not yet commented on the ‘Plan B’ measures, which were introduced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson during a news conference at Downing Street on Wednesday.

But they are one of seven League One clubs who currently average more than 10,000 supporters at home fixtures, along with Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich Town, Charlton Athletic, Portsmouth and Plymouth Argyle.

Johnson said the pass would still be available to people who had received two doses of a vaccine against Covid-19 but the government would "keep this under review" as the booster programme was extended.

He added that a negative lateral flow test would also be sufficient to obtain a Covid pass.

He said the restrictions would start in a week to help keep events and venues open "at full capacity" while giving attendees "confidence that those around them have done the responsible thing to minimise risk to others".

Previous attempts to introduce the Covid pass were abandoned in September.

The wearing of face masks will not be a legal requirement in indoor areas at the stadium, but it is expected that Wanderers will advise supporters to do so, where possible.
