Supporters might want to think twice before leaving early when Wanderers are playing.
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson’s dramatic late equaliser against Morecambe on Tuesday night was the Whites’ 19th goal in the last 15 minutes of League One matches this season – a total no other side in the division can better.
Ian Evatt’s men had 80 per cent of the possession against the Shrimps and the Bolton boss reckons the number of late goals they have scored is no coincidence given their style of play.
He insists they will continue fighting until the final whistle ahead of Saturday’s clash with sixth-placed Plymouth.
“Even though we’ve had quite a lot of shutouts, if you look at our goal tally it’s right up there with the top teams in this league,” he said.
“I’ve said loads of times, when you move the ball and control the ball it’s so difficult to (press) for 90 minutes.
“Players fatigue, spaces start to open up and we can now impact from the bench. So it’s no coincidence we’re scoring late.”
Wanderers are currently seven points off the play-off places and Evatt is hopeful they can continue to put pressure on the sides above them in the coming weeks.
“It will be nice to keep them fresh Saturday to Saturday, which will be good up until Easter. Other teams now have to play with some pressure in midweek,” he added.
“If we can get back to winning ways really quickly this Saturday and put another run together, it starts to put pressure on the ones above us. Some teams can handle it and some teams can’t.
“For us, we just need to concentrate ourselves and make sure it’s performance over points. People might frown at that comment but the better you perform, the more chance you have of getting points.
“So we have to keep doing that and hopefully turn performances into wins.”
The Bolton boss opted to bring Amadou Bakayoko back into the side on Tuesday night, with Bodvarsson dropping to the bench.
And with Elias Kachunga now back in contention, Evatt has even more attacking options at his disposal.
He said: “In a number of departments because of players out of the team, Kyle (Dempsey) and Gethin (Jones) for instance, we’re quite limited with options.
“But it’s the forward positions where we’ve still got plenty of options and we’ll pick horses for courses so to speak, and pick the right players for the right game.
“There’s lots of our stuff that we’re doing really well - I think the team is evolving, improving and developing.
“You can see that in the games and there’s still more to come, which is great. And with a lack of midweek fixtures, we can add even more detail on the grass.”
