More Championship interest emerges in Bolton Wanderers star man Dapo Afolayan 13694374

Cardiff City have joined Fulham on the trail of Wanderers winger Dapo Afolayan.

The Welsh club checked out Ian Evatt’s top scorer in Monday’s 3-1 win against Accrington Stanley in which he grabbed a 14th goal of the season.

Afolayan has attracted plenty of admiring glances from the Championship this season, with Fulham still said to be monitoring his progress at the University of Bolton Stadium.

The former West Ham man has a contract which runs up to 2024 and is coming towards the end of his first full season as a professional, having signed for Wanderers last summer on the back of a successful six-month loan.

Afolayan’s electric running and dribbling skills have translated well to League One and though his goal on Monday was the 24-year-old’s first in 10 games, he remains only the second person in two decades to score more than a dozen times in a single campaign.

Eoin Doyle managed 19 last term but Michael Ricketts’ 15 in 2001/02 had remained unchallenged to that point.

Cardiff, who have also been linked with a move for Millwall’s Jed Wallace, have shown progress since the appointment of Steve Morison in October and currently sit 17th in the table.

Ian Evatt said last month that he was preparing to be “tested” in the summer transfer market, having seen his players make such progress in the last two seasons.

“The problem we have when we are playing like we are the moment is people get highlighted and targeted,” he said.

“I have no doubt we’ll be tested in the summer and whatever decisions we do make will be what we feel is in the best interests of the football club. But we are under no pressure to sell. It will be what we feel is right, Sharon [Brittan, owner of the club] and myself and the rest of the board.”

Wanderers skipper Ricardo Santos had also been tracked by clubs in the Championship over the last few months until his season was ended prematurely by a hamstring injury.

The defender says he will hold talks with the club about a new deal once the current campaign comes to an end.

Not sure Dapo is ready to step up to the Championship nevermind Fulham and the Prem.

You can be sure though that if we do get an offer and its more than a million then he'll be on his way.

Gary Madine scored 9 goals in 36 appearances in our promotion winning team in League 1. In the following season Ken Anderson got Cardiff City to shell out £6million for him.

Do we need the cash? Probably.

Do we need it more than when KA sold Madine?

Ultimately it will come down to what Santos and Dapo want as it seems to me that the club will want to keep both.

Warm a bench and bank a fatter paycheck or star in a promotion winning team with fans that adore them?

Are you seriously trying to be serious?

Are you suggesting that we won't get promoted and the fans won't love the team next year Bob? Are you on drugs? Hasn't Evatt already practically told us that's what's going to happen so it must be true. Smile

Bob was clearly pointing out that you - as a self proclaimed Business Consultant (hahaha - you do make me laugh) - should KNOW that a company facing potential insolvency and unable to attract investment (ie why they needed to grab the Governments Covid loan to share equity offer), have only two financial alternatives left to them, namely increase personal equity (which they have by putting in a further £7.5m over the last twelve months or so) and/or sell assets.

Bob has merely pointed out the obvious that FV may not be in a financial position to turn down bids for players which may be necessary to actually help fund next season - which you clearly had missed.

Instead of acknowledging that you have once again tried to hide behind personal abuse ("are you on drugs") attempting to change the narrative (Evatt's claim we will be promoted next season), being flippant (Evatt said it so it must be true) and finally the smiley face emoji to attempt to mask that once again you've been caught out.

Well done for getting four of your classic ways of trying to avoid that you've again got something wrong in just two lines of your text reply to him!

Shame you haven't managed to get your hatred of Brexit and the Tory party in there as well as a bare face lie or two, in order to achieve a full house!
