Barrow switch is not on the cards for Bolton keeper Joel Dixon 13880742

Barrow are not in the frame to re-sign Wanderers keeper Joel Dixon this summer, The Bolton News understands.

Reports yesterday claimed that the 28-year-old was cleared to make a return to Cumbria if Ian Evatt successfully brokered a deal with Manchester City to sign James Trafford on loan.

While the Trafford offer is still firmly in place – and City yet to make their mind up on where the newly-capped England Under-21 international will be playing his football next season, we understand Dixon is not being teed-up for a move to Barrow.

Trafford has already been linked with a move to Anderlecht in Belgium this summer and after several days on international duty he hopes to learn soon whether he will be linking up again with Bolton or moved on elsewhere.

Wanderers return for pre-season testing at the end of the week before flying out to the Algarve at the weekend for a week-long training camp.

Jack Iredale is the only new signing currently due to join the group, although it is hoped that the transfer market will accelerate this week to allow Evatt the chance to add to his squad before the trip.

The chances of Marlon Fossey returning on loan may well have improved with the news that Preston North End are closing in on a permanent deal for right wingback Cyrus Christie.

North End were one of a handful of Championship sides who were considering a move for the Fulham 23-year-old, who spent a few months on loan at the UniBol last season.

It was known that they were examining other options for the position, but reports claim they have agreed terms with Republic of Ireland international, Christie, who spent last season on loan from Swansea City from Fulham.

Kane Wilson has also wrapped up his move from Forest Green to Bristol City, removing another of the most sought-after right wingbacks on the market.

Wanderers’ offer remains on the table, but they are now examining other options in case Fossey and Fulham are offered more money in the division above.
