Funny one this. Vale are newly promoted via the playoffs and nobody expects them to set League 1 on fire, but they made a good start by beating Fleetwood at home on the opening day, coming back from a goal down. Then they went away to another promoted team Exeter City and got pumped 4 nil.
Are Vale really crap or are Exeter - who beat Cheltenham 7 nil tonight in the cup - good?
I reckon none of those teams will trouble the scorers at the end of the season, but this is one of those potential banana skin games I hate. Theoretically we should beat them, even though it's at their ground, but we have to make it happen on the day.
I'm sure Jamie Proctor would like to score a goal or two against us, but I have a bit more confidence in our defence than I had last season and barring monumental cock ups or complacency we should be fine. Our players have to remember that beating Vale at Vale Park is worth exactly the same as beating Sheff W in front of 30k fans at Hillsborough and should apply themselves accordingly.

If they do I'm thinking Vale 0 BWFC 3.

On current form we should beat them fairly easily and i think we will, 2-0 to the Super Whites.

Should win comfortably, obviously we won't.

1-1, although a defeat would not surprise me, but at least that would shut the happy clappers up for a bit.

They've signed a (not very prolific) striker as Wilson is still out, but it's a lad Darrell Clarke knows well so he might go straight into the team for Saturday.

Most Vale fans seem fairly pragmatic but there's a bit of fighting talk on the forums:

Breadwinner wrote:Excited about the starting xl for sat .
As watched the Exeter game online didn't think we covered ourselves in glory throughout the team .
Something seemed to change in last 20 last night though as wasn't there no idea why but lets have 90 of the last 20 last night v Bolton and see how the result pans out .
Stevens
Forrester Walker Hall
Massey Benning
Pett Garrity
Mcdermott
Proctor Harrison
Maybe something like thar I believe Tommy Mcdermott gave us energy in midfield last night so same again then .
Vale to win 1-0 Proctor .

DazFred wrote:Really looking forward to the game, especially after the 2 signings today.
Wondering if the gobby girl (singing We'll never see you again) from a few seasons ago, will be there.
That you Nat?

Valefan 16 wrote:It’s only the fourth time we’ve met since they were never playing us again of course! Hehe

DazFred wrote:Any sort of win over their fatheaded arrogant manager will do me.
As for the heat it won't bother the players. I believe Vale thrashed the waiters and pool attendants in a game during the recent pre season.

Valiiant wrote:After a quick glance at their forum, are we playing Bolton or Real Madrid tomorrow?

Fosse 69 wrote:Goal for Harrison on his debut game?

We'll see....

It will be a tough one, especially given the weather but hopefully with our better squad depth we should be able to see this one out. We need to score first though as we don’t want to be chasing the game, although we didn’t do too bad against Salford after going behind. I think we’ll win though so I’ll go 2-0 to Wanderers.

If all goes to plan I can see a BEL from Nat on the horizon. They certainly seem to be a gobby bunch.

Leeds Valiant wrote:They're not that big are they? Decent for this level but even in this league, Wednesday, Derby, Ipswich are all bigger. I think sometimes being in the greedy league goes to these clubs heads.

Bolton fans seem to have a massive chip on their shoulder and seem to think they will walk the league this season. Despite saying that every season and failing. I bet there ego hurt when we smashed them at their place
Without a doubt a tough game tomorrow but vale have nothing to fear and I'd love it if we beat them. Sick of these wannabe big clubs thinking they can buy the league even though they nearly went bust a few years ago. But that's modern football i guess

Bomber (again) wrote:I would like us to do them over! Cant do with big heads! They were very lucky last time at Vale park ! We owe them one come on you whites !

Port Vale got a 'bounce back' loan in 2020. All of £50K. Cheap skates!

They've also got a 'bounce back' Director of Football. David Flitcroft was bounced out of Bowton along with onion master chef, Keith Hill, in 2020.

Lets hope he isn't bouncing at 5 o'clock today.
