Wanderers are delighted to confirm a further loan signing from Liverpool with the capture of wing-back Owen Beck.

Beck has agreed a season-long stay with Wanderers and follows friend and Reds’ team-mate Conor Bradley to the University of Bolton Stadium.

The 20-year-old left-sided player was recalled by Liverpool from a loan spell in Portugal with top-flight outfit Famalicao and becomes the Whites’ fifth signing of the summer transfer window, which closes tomorrow (Thursday).

Beck – who has made two first-team appearances for Liverpool after coming through the Anfield youth system as an attack-minded full-back – will provide further competition in Wanderers’ left wing-back role.

And his signing will also allow Wanderers’ boss Ian Evatt to increase his defensive options by potentially freeing up Jack Iredale to operate as a left-sided central defender.

“Owen is a player we’ve known about for a long time and we’ve monitored his progress,” said Evatt.

“He went on loan to the Portuguese Premier League. That didn’t quite work out for him. That can happen and we’ve benefited from that.

“He’s very much in the Liverpool mould, which fits the way we play. He’s kind of a left-footed Conor and we’re lucky to have him.

“Thanks to Liverpool and Owen for choosing us and hopefully he can progress throughout the season and gets some real minutes under his belt. We’re looking forward to working with him.”

Flint-born Beck spent time with Stoke City and Tranmere Rovers before joining Liverpool’s Academy set-up at U13 level.

He progressed through the youth team to the Reds’ U23s, signing a first professional contract at Anfield in June 2020 and being rewarded with a new deal in July, 2021 while spending pre-season with Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad.

Beck’s first-team debut came as a substitute in a Carabao Cup tie in October 2021 before coming off the bench to face Leicester City in the quarter-finals of the same competition two months later as Liverpool went on to lift the trophy.

The Wales U21 international was set to spend the 2022/23 season in Portugal but that move was curtailed to allow him to further his football education in the EFL and Beck is delighted at the prospect of a League One campaign with Wanderers.

“After a tough spell in Portugal, I can’t wait to get started here and get playing and training,“ said Beck, who will wear squad number 30 with the Whites.

“I know Bolton play with wing-backs so I’m looking forward to it. I feel like I’m an attacking full-back so it will suit me down to the ground.

“It’s always difficult coming into League One but I’m looking to get as many games as I can, help the team with goals, assists, and trying to push for promotion.

“I’ve been into the stadium and it’s incredible. I’m sure the fans will fill it on the weekend so I’m looking forward to it.”

Owen Beck reckons Wanderers will suit him “down to the ground” after joining on loan from Liverpool for the season.

The left-back heads to the UniBol after he was recalled from Portuguese top-flight side Famalicao.

Beck has been at Liverpool since Under-13 level and signed a new long-term contract with the club last summer.

The 20-year-old has made two competitive appearances for the Reds, featuring against Preston North End and Leicester City in the Carabao Cup last season.

He has also represented Wales from Under-17 to Under-21 level and is the great nephew of Anfield legend Ian Rush.

“After a tough spell in Portugal, I can’t wait to get started here and get playing and training,” said the left-back.

Beck will now link up with Liverpool team-mate Conor Bradley, who has made a strong start to life at the UniBol.

The Northern Ireland international has impressed in the wing-back role and was on target in the wins against Salford City and Morecambe.

Prior to that deal being finalised, Liverpool’s then sporting director Michael Edwards came to visit the Whites and watch them train at their Lostock training base.

Beck’s arrival adds competition on the left of defence, with Jack Iredale and Declan John both playing in that role during the early stages of the season, although the latter picked up an Achilles injury during the warm-ups against Plymouth Argyle last weekend.
