Wanderers are on the lookout for at least two more quality additions in the transfer window that could transform Saturday’s frustration into promotion points.
A goalless draw against league leaders Plymouth Argyle is a point many would have settled for before kick-off but such was Bolton’s domination of the game, Ian Evatt left proud of the performance but frustrated by the result.
The Whites will complete the loan signing of Southampton striker Dan Nlundulu today to sharpen up their attack and are in the market for more.
Asked if Evatt felt he could land the sort of firepower this month that could make a difference to tight games such at the one on Saturday, he said: “We hope so – but I must re-emphasise that I believe we have very good strikers in this building, and that they will start taking their chances.
“It wasn’t just the strikers today, Aaron Morley had two chances, Kieran Lee should probably have shot in the first half, Kacha thought it was in but it was a wonderful save on to the post.
“We have to keep doing the things we are doing, getting into those positions, and having that creativity will eventually see us winning games comfortably.
“We are all frustrated because it was a good performance and we deserved more than we got.”
Nlundulu played just over an hour for Cheltenham Town in their 2-1 defeat to Morecambe, with Southampton exercising a recall clause in his loan yesterday.
Evatt predicts he will not be the final signing of the window.
“I’d expect Dan will be sorted on Monday and, of course, there are conversations going on behind the scenes all the time regarding people wanting our players and also we are working hard to bring one or two bits of quality in that we think can improve things.”
Cheltenham boss Wade Elliott believes the 23-year-old has improved this season.
“He recognises it has been really good for him. He has developed as a player and as a person.
“If he was to have stayed with us until the end of the season, he would have been perfectly comfortable with that. You have to respect that Bolton is a terrific club to play for as well.”
Wanderers take on Portsmouth in the Papa Johns Trophy tomorrow night and Evatt has confirmed that he will bring Ricardo Santos back for his first game in a month.
The defender did not feature in the squad against Plymouth, instead doing a whole training session with the B Team to ensure he is physically ready to play.
Santos was hospitalised at the start of December with a virus which affected his breathing but has since made a full recovery.
