MJ Williams set to have knee operation 16425881

Wanderers midfielder MJ Williams is set to have knee surgery and will be out of action for “three or four weeks”.

Ian Evatt shared an update on the midfielder after his side’s 1-0 win against Cheltenham at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Kyle Dempsey scored the winner 10 minutes from time, finding the bottom corner with a pinpoint strike from outside the box.

Williams was absent from the squad and hasn’t featured since the 1-0 win against Forest Green last month.

Evatt insists the injury is “nothing major” but says it has been causing the 27-year-old some discomfort lately.

“MJ has an operation on Tuesday,” said the Bolton boss. “He will be out for three to four weeks.

“He has got a loose body that is floating around, which is causing him some discomfort. It is just a bit of a clean up really, nothing major but something that needs to happen.”

Williams has made 27 appearances since the start of the campaign, although starts have been hard to come by at times.

The midfielder adds to Wanderers’ injury list, with Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and George Johnston also currently out of action.

Meanwhile, George Thomason and Southampton loanee Dan Nlundulu are both nearing a return to the first-team picture.

Conor Bradley will miss the upcoming matches against Peterborough and MK Dons after picking up his 10th yellow card of the season against Cheltenham. Elias Kachunga also has one game left on his ban.

Evatt’s men remain fifth in the League One table and have now won three successive matches since their 2-1 defeat at Derby last month.

Wanderers currently have a nine-point cushion over seventh-place Peterborough, although Posh have three games in hand.
