Morecambe boss Derek Adams felt his side were the more likely to win following their goalless draw against Wanderers.
The Whites’ best chances fell to Shola Shoretire and Josh Sheehan, but Connor Ripley made a couple of important stops.
Jensen Weir had a decent opportunity at the other end but was denied by James Trafford low to his right.
The Morecambe chief was pleased with his side’s defensive display and says they limited Ian Evatt’s men to “few opportunities on goal”.
Adams told the club’s website: “I thought it was an entertaining game. Both teams were trying to get the win on the day, we saw that from the start.
“We had the better of the chances with a number of clear-cut opportunities that we failed to take. We limited Bolton to very few opportunities on our goal.
That was the beauty of the game, we pressed them high up the pitch and didn’t allow them to pass the ball. We broke off them a good number of times doing that.”
He added: “Jensen Weir had a good opportunity. (Liam) Shaw put one past the post, Cole Stockton had one, Ash Hunter as well. Throughout the 90 minutes I think we were the better team.
“We are very good at home. We have had an unbeaten run and we were very competitive against a team fourth in the table.”
The result takes Wanderers three points clear of fifth-place Derby, who face Shrewsbury at Pride Park this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Morecambe could drop into the relegation zone depending on the outcome of today’s results.
“It is a pleasing point for us because of the opposition we were playing against. We did try to get the three points but a point and a clean sheet, you would take it,” Adams explained.
“We have always had good games against Bolton. Both teams trying to pass it, move and run. Today both teams put on a good spectacle.”
The Whites are back in action next weekend when they welcome third-place Ipswich to the UniBol.
