Wanderers' B Team record 2-0 friendly win against Wigan U21 16657374

Wanderers’ B Team ran out 2-0 winners against Wigan Under-21s in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the Christopher Park training ground.

Sam Inwood and Finlay Lockett managed to get on the scoresheet for the Whites either side of half time.

Inwood tapped home after Wigan goalkeeper Sam Tickle failed to keep hold of Wes Frimpong’s cross 10 minutes before the break.

Several members of the first-team squad were involved for the hosts including Anthony Scully, who was denied by the woodwork.

Matt Craddock’s side doubled their lead on the hour mark when Lockett beat Tickle with a ruthless strike from 25 yards after some good work by Matt Tweedley.

The youngster has been in prolific form over the past few weeks, also scoring in the friendlies against Sheffield Wednesday Reserves and Burnley Under-23s.

The young Whites have had plenty of friendly matches this season in addition to their Central League commitments.

Speaking last month, Craddock explained: “It is really positive. You need to have that variety – you look at the games the first team have to play and there is so much variety in one league.

“We noticed that we wouldn’t get that from the Central League alone so we have had to top up our programme with select friendlies.

“Some are really challenging against good players, but we hopefully have got a calendar this year of variety.”

He added: “Every week we are getting something different. We are just trying to make it as varied as possible so that it mirrors what the first team are up against every week.”

Wanderers resume their league campaign on Tuesday, April 18 when they welcome Fleetwood to the Eddie Davies Academy (2pm).

Craddock’s side currently sit sixth in the table, having taken 10 points from 10 fixtures since the start of the campaign.
