Fleetwood boss Scott Brown's frank view on Stockley red card 16724928

Fleetwood boss Scott Brown labelled Jayden Stockley’s red card during their 2-0 defeat at Wanderers a “poor decision”.

Stockley was given his marching orders by referee Ben Speedie just before the hour mark following an off the ball incident with MJ Williams.

The Whites had earlier gone in front through a Promise Omochere own goal and Kyle Dempsey wrapped up the result from close range 12 minutes from time.

Brown felt his side were “in the game” before the sending off and confirmed the club will be appealing the decision.

The 37-year-old said: “I have watched it back and it is never a sending off. They said he pulled his hair. The fourth official made that decision.

“I seem to be talking about referees a lot. I don’t want to be doing that – I want to be talking about how our lads played.

“Until the red card, I thought we were in the game. We knew what our gameplan was.

"We created a lot of chances in the first half and were probably a little bit disappointed to come in 1-0 down.”

He added: “I think throughout the referee had quite a poor performance and there were lots of decisions that probably didn’t go both ways.”

The result saw Wanderers secure a League One play-off spot with a game to spare, while Fleetwood sit 12th in the table.

“We knew we had to come here and bring our A game, and the lads did that,” Brown stated.

“A poor decision has cost us because we end up playing the last 30 minutes with 10 men. We try to go two up top and we lose the second goal.”

The Whites conclude their league campaign with a trip to Bristol Rovers on Sunday, May 7. Meanwhile, Fleetwood host second-place Ipswich on the final day.
