I have an Imac, and an Ipad that gives me all the Radio APPS I need, plus 2 or 3 Digital radios.

I've been told I have to think of something I would like for my 75th birthday.

Ideally a 76th at least. I'm wondering about asking for a Smart Speaker.

I don't have a Smart speaker, but what will I gain from having one?

Have you got one?

Is it a novelty for a few weeks, then it gets pushed into a drawer and forgotten about.

If you love yours which model have you got?

Never had one. Even Siri on my mac can be a pain in the arse, popping up out of the blue with 'I'm not sure I understand' despite me not having said a word.
The Alexa app on my phone is the same. Hardly use it.
It's probably the one bit of tech I see as a luxury I can do without.

Most people I know that have them use them like toys. Asking stupid questions, trying to fool it. Passes an hour I suppose, but hardly worth the money in my book.
Never tried Copper Dog. Good?

I like my smart speakers.
Can ask Alexa a multitude of different things and instantly get a response whilst reading through the latest argument on Nuts.
Can get it to play songs that you like, stream pod casts, stream radio stations.
Want to ask when Brucie passed away, ask away.
Want the latest Bolton result, ask Alexa.
You can even play games!
Oh I nearly forget, get other smart devices (smart plugs, bulbs etc)
Alexa turn on the living room light 💡

Yes, it's really nice for a blended Malt, usually about £30 on Amazon.

It's really nice neat. I'm not a fan of mixers.

Right, at the risk of Lord Sluffy telling me I’m talking utter bo——ks again I don’t have an Alexa or similar because it has been suggested that it can be an ear for big brother. Google admitted that whilst it was possible to remotely switch on speakers it would only ever be done under test conditions and strict guidance. Where have we heard that before? Likewise many have reported that having discussed items to purchase between themselves they have subsequently been bombarded by advertisements for those same products. I don’t know whether any of that’s true or not but just in case I neither have a smart speaker nor activate Siri on my iPhone. Each to their own I suppose but not for me.
