Michael Ricketts was the best striker in the world for about 12 months. Literally everything he touched ended up in the back of the net. I love that goal he scored at Leicester on the opening day of the season when he just twated it into the top corner.

This started off as a sensible question-about overrated English players. So far 22 entries - but 14 are from three people slagging each other off.
It's tedious,boring,uninteresting -so give the rest of us a rest and pack it in.
If you want to spend time exercising your bile publicly- do us all a favour and find somewhere else to do it

I love it when people who hardly contribute slag off others who do. It's a football forum used by people passionate about football, you're going to get the odd disagreement.

For the record the most overrated English players are Welbeck, Gary Cahill, Theo Walcott, Sturridge and Cleverly.

Glen Johnson, Jack Butland, James Milner, Wayne Rooney and Theo Walcott

Ashley Young was terrible in the summer for England.

I know he's not rated highly now but in the past I was always baffled how jermaine jenas was highly rated.
Has anyone mentioned Jordan Henderson? God he is rubbish. Andy Carroll is again a player who Liverpool paid crazy money for when he is no better than someone like darius Henderson.
I agree with those who say welbeck and cleverley are over rated.

I think Andy Carroll is a decent player - it's not his fault someone paid a crazy price for him. In the right team with the right service he'd score a bundle.

Agree about Jordan Henderson - another crazy Dalglish signing, £20m I seem to recall. Madness.

Stewart Downing another over rated player, for a winger who rarely scores a goal the media don't half build him up. Another dalgliesh waste of money.
