In 1970 businessman Frank Lang was planning on holding a competition to sell off the Farnworth Auto Company with tickets priced at £5 each.
Also up for grabs was a hairdressing salon and laundrette which he owned.
The petrol station was valued at £12,500 and the salon and laundrette, £9,500
Mr Lang said: “These days money is so scarce that I have been unable to get a reasonable cash price for either of the two businesses.
“I have had many offers to lease the properties but I want the money to reinvest.”
The petrol station was on Harrowby Street and the salon and laundrette was on Broadway in Farnworth.
