Cheeky!
I got extremely lucky with this one.
You obviously don't want to see your love ones upset and the kids were all still at school back then and I had to say something to give them hope, so I said the only thing I could even though I didn't much think it would happen that way.
You do have a point though, even my own daughter says I'm never wrong - I've since said a few things that I knew was wrong, in order to get that notion out of her head - because its important (at least to me) that she thinks for herself and not religiously take anyone (even me) to be right without question, every time.
And fwiw, I generally only make statements on the stuff I know about and I'm usually are saying them to self obsessed know it all's (Wanderlust and Bob come to mind) who generally know nothing about the subject that I have spent a career doing - for instance Wanderlust hilarious claim to know how government works by his experience in working at a NON GOVERNMENT Organisation.
Surely basic common sense would suggest in such cases my lifetime experience and knowledge would be more likely to be nearer the mark than someone's preconceived bias and dislike of one of the horses in a two horse race (Wanderlust hatred of all things Tory and Bob's opinion of government cover ups).
Often it really isn't about me being proved right and more about their complete lack of understanding as to how the system actually works.
I don't doubt Wanderlust and Bob are knowledgeable in their own specialised fields of a restaurateur and accountancy respectively so I wouldn't dream to tell them how their jobs should operate, yet they seem to believe they know how mine should work and refuse to listen to me when I tell them they are wrong!
And to evidence that no smoking gun has been found about the awarding of PPE contracts to Tory cronies after FOR YEARS now and the Sue Gray report wasn't a whitewash but ended up brining the police in and playing a large part towards Boris exit from Parliament.
Choose your battles wisely, as they say.
