Sheehan shortlisted for PFA League One Fans’ Player of the Year prize 17352734

Wanderers midfielder Josh Sheehan has been nominated for the PFA League One Fans’ Player of the Year Award.

It has been an impressive campaign from the Welshman, who collected the two main prizes at the club’s End of Season Awards night last month after recognition from the Bolton supporters and his team-mates.

Sheehan has made 52 appearances in all competitions, scoring four times. He has built on a strong end to last term after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.

The 29-year-old has managed 12 assists in the league – a total only bettered by Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Harrison Burrows and Karamoko Dembele – helping the Whites finish third in the table.

Sheehan’s consistent performances also earned opportunities on the international stage with Wales during the friendlies against South Korea and Gibraltar.

He now faces competition from Alfie May, Chris Martin, Colby Bishop, Devante Cole, Burrows, Marlon Pack and Mendez-Laing for the prize.

May finished the season as top scorer in the third tier with 23 goals in 43 matches for Charlton, who finished in 16th place.

Bishop and Cole were close behind in the Golden Boot race, netting 21 and 18 goals for Portsmouth and Barnsley respectively, while Martin found the net 16 times for Bristol Rovers.

Elsewhere, Pack was an important figure for Pompey as John Mousinho’s side clinched the title and secured a return to the Championship.

Supporters can now place their vote for Sheehan here but must do so before 11.59pm on Sunday, May 19.

The creative midfielder will be hoping to finish the campaign on a high note this weekend when Wanderers face Oxford in the play-off final at Wembley.

He got on the scoresheet when Evatt’s men beat the U’s 5-0 at the Toughsheet Community Stadium a couple of months ago, finding the bottom corner with a precise finish from outside the area.
