Judge Aileen Cannon has dismissed the entire classified documents case against Donald Trump on the grounds that Jack Smith doesn't have legitimate authority to investigate or charge the former President. This case is now over unless the US Supreme Court overrules her. So that won't be happening and Trump gets away with it again.

Not necessarily...
Trump's been handed a big legal winpublished at 15:58

Legal experts have debated the strengths and weakness of the two federal criminal cases brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith that are pending against Donald Trump. Judge Aileen Cannon just stepped in and said none of those details matter.
In a dramatic decision, issued Monday morning from her court in Florida, she held that the mere existence of special counsels - how they are appointed and how they are funded - violates the US Constitution.
It’s a remarkable holding that cuts against the ruling of judges in other US courts that have dealt with these specially appointed prosecutors. It draws from theories advanced by some conservative legal scholars and, most notably, by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in the recently decided presidential immunity case.
Smith will almost certainly ask a federal appellate court to review - and overturn - Cannon’s decision. And depending on the outcome of that appeal, the losing party could then turn to the US Supreme Court.
All of this takes time, though. And, with the presidential election just three months away, that’s a commodity the special counsel has in short supply.
On the day the Republican National Convention begins, just two days after he was nearly felled by an assassin’s bullet, Trump has been handed a big legal win.

Actually the 11th Circuit will decide. Cannon got her grounds for this by a paragraph written by the maga justice, Clarence Thomas. She cited him three times in her ruling. For her to put this ruling out on the opening day of the Republican National Convention, shows her bias. Similar to the Supreme Courts unconstitutional reasoning to give immunity to official acts of the President, this ruling goes against stated law. Cannon is and has been on the Trump legal team since she was given this case. Almost every ruling has gone to Trump and his team. Mind you, this is a case of stealing government documents including nuclear secrets and hiding them and then attempting to move them before they were found in a legal raid. Of course, the Supreme Court overruled the Appellate decision, which found Presidents were not Kings, and were subject to the law of the land. Our country has been in freefall since the Supremes have acted not so Supreme.luckyPeterpiper wrote:Judge Aileen Cannon has dismissed the entire classified documents case against Donald Trump on the grounds that Jack Smith doesn't have legitimate authority to investigate or charge the former President. observer even if the 11th vote in Smith's favour which I think they will Trump will go to the US Supreme Court (as is his right given this is a Federal case). So which way do you think the group that gave Trump immunity will rule? This one's over. Even if it wasn't there's no chance any of these cases get heard before November and frankly I am certain the orange buffoon will win because the American people are fundamentally stupid. American Democracy is now dead, the corpse will fall over once and for all on January 20th 2025.

sluffy Trump can take it to the Supreme Court once the 11th circuit rules against him and since we already know what they think he's free and clear, not just on this one but all the others. And when he wins which he will he and his Heritage Foundation Cronies will kill American democracy once and for all.
NATO and by extension the entire Western world are toast.

You can delete the word "fundamentally." The difference here is the 11th can not only rule on the merits but on bias and assign the case to a different judge. SCOTUS already has a win by delaying this past the election, aside from absolving him with their immunity ruling. They also absolved themselves by redefining bribery... thereby allowing Alito and Clarence the Clown off the hook for the millions they took from billionaires who had cases before them. SCOTUS, hereby forever will be known as SCROTUS, can only be touched if the Democrats win the Presidency and both houses of Congress. Still a long way to go to Election Day... and Trump often says outlandish things. Let's all hope he does for Europe's sake. His VP candidate has already said no money to Ukraine, and Trump has been a Putin patsy for many years.luckyPeterpiper wrote:observer even if the 11th vote in Smith's favour which I think they will Trump will go to the US Supreme Court (as is his right given this is a Federal case). The only surprise would be someone thinking that the US legal system was anything other than a political joke in the first place.
