Wanderers have made an official complaint to the PGMOL over the challenge that looks to have sidelined new signing Klaidi Lolos for several weeks.
Leyton Orient defender Dan Happe received only a yellow card from referee Charles Breakspear for a challenge that left the Bolton player unable to complete the rest of the game.
Former Crawley forward Lolos is currently waiting on the results of a scan on a damaged ankle but Ian Evatt fears that he could be out of commission for some time.
“Klaidi has gone for a scan today, I’m really disappointed for him,” he said. “We put a complaint in and the footage to the PGMOL. It was a really poor tackle, for me, and should have been a red card.
“He caught him half way up his shin, which in turn collapsed the ankle. It looks now like he has ligament damage, so we will find out the extent later on.”
There is more bad news in the case of Will Forrester, who could now miss the next three months after having emergency surgery on a broken and dislocated toe sustained after falling down some stairs last week.
“We think it will be 10 to 12 weeks,” Evatt explained. “He fractured one toe but the other dislocated one they couldn’t get back in so he needed surgery. He now has a wire basically sticking out of his toe to keep it in place which won’t come out for four weeks, then they have to build up the load and tolerance of the foot again.
“It is desperately unlucky and he is probably frustrated, so are we, but we will give him support and get him back asap.”
Kyle Dempsey could be back in contention for the weekend’s home game against Wrexham after returning from an issue with his knee which kept him out for most of pre-season.
“He has trained today with no issues so, fingers crossed, there is no reaction to that,” Evatt said.
“He won’t be involved for Mansfield but provided everything goes the way it should he should be available for Sunday.”
Defenders Chris Forino and George Johnston will be in the starting XI after sitting out at Leyton Orient – with Evatt also confirming that Gethin Jones will be back in training in 10 days.
“Chris and George both need the minutes and both will benefit from the outing,” he said. “Both decisions were taken at the weekend with a long term view. We don’t want to lose either of them for a long-term spell, so we had to make that decision.
“Sometimes that is a hard thing to do but I felt it was the best thing for us and for them.”
