Most people now consider that keeping black people as slaves or children as miners and disallowing women to drive or vote is backwards and morally wrong. The same with outlawing gay sex. Racism is now seen as unacceptable and seems obvious to most that is not morally justified. Today we scoff and scorn at past generations who were guilty of such things and wonder how they could ever have thought those things were ok in a supposedly modern society. But what is now considered morally reprehensible was once considered morally correct or at least acceptable.

This got me on to thinking what will our future generations think of us and our present attitudes? Or what will we see as acceptable to us today but in 50 years people will find it unbelievable. We think that we are mostly on the track to moral good but are there attitudes we have now which will, in another time (the future) be seen as as backward as be-heading gays seems to us in the present day?

It was hard to come up with something but I thought it was plausible to imagine a day will come where future generations look back on our Olympic sports festivals and football matches and laugh at us...

"Oh my gosh, how could they ever have thought it was ok to divide people up according to their country of origin for a sporting event. They were so backwards in 2012."

What else are we doing that will be dimly viewed by the future folks?

Just to expand on he above:

Will we end up banning the farming of animals for meat. So now more beef or chicken - animals will have too many rights. But the future folk will see us as having been barbaric and having been akin to wild animals ourselves compared with their own (new) moral high ground.

What about keeping pets. Will we be seen the way we see ourselves now? - animal lovers - or we could be seen as animal imprisoners who did it for our own ends. "Back in the old days, as hard to imagine as this is, they (humans) used to keeps animals such as dogs as "pets" in their homes. Not being as morally balanced as us they were unable to see the error of their ways. They genuinely thought it was acceptable and even, unbelievably, a loving thing to do."

Or, will we all get fed up and go back the other way. Start taking slaves, increasing segregation by religion and race, blowing off animal rights altogether "they're only animals". Will the future generations say of us that they can't believe how stupid we were that we got so bogged down with human rights, animal rights, environmental rights and so on. Maybe the only right that will exist is ones right to do whatever one pleases. Perhaps that will be the highest moral ground there could possibly be. Hmm?

Can't believe nobody else thinks of this stuff. No alcohol was involved in the making of this topic.

Man is a hunter/gatherer by his very nature. We will always crave meat.

What if/when we have artificial meat that tastes as good and costs the same as real meat? Will there be a moral dilema there?

I have these thoughts too Biggie.

I always wonder how swearing will be received in years to come. It's regarded as normal for somebody to be offended by what in most contexts are essentially meaningless words, so much so that there's legislation in place relating to their broadcasting. In years to come, they may find that laughable.

I have tried Qorn instead of mince meat and I couldn't taste the difference. If there were no animals to eat then the scientists would create artificial foodstuffs still packed with proteins and carbohydrates. We would learn to adapt.

It can't have been a pleasant life for primitive man running round the jungle trying to catch summat to eat. Raw meat is not easy to digest. Sleeping in a cave is hardly conducive to a good nights sleep but look where we are today.
