A BOLTON man has appeared in court accused of stealing a circus attraction called The Wheel of Death.

Jeremy St John Van- derwesthuizen had had a warrant without bail issued for his arrest after he failed to turn up at court on Tuesday. He told Blackpool magis- trates he had changed address and did not receive the summons to go to court.

Vanderwesthuizen, aged 25, of Eskrick Street, Halliwell, is accused of stealing The Wheel of Death, worth £29,000, from his uncle, Wayne Vanderwest- huizen, at Blackpool between November 11 and 20 last year.

He is also alleged to have stolen a Ford Iveco van, worth £2,500, from his uncle. Vanderwest- huizen was bailed to March 8 for a committal hearing.

The Wheel of Death is a steel construction of two or three wheels con- nected by spokes. Per- formers balance in or on the wheels, which revolve at high speed.

Blimey, now that is a dutch name, if I had ever seen one - although I presumed it would have been spelt Van Der Westhuizen and not they way that report had put it!

WTF did he plan to do with it ? My guess is that he was going to weigh it in for scrap.
