Just a quick question - if an unmarked van pulls up outside your house and the two men starts feeding yellow cable into the ground what do you do?

Their van had no logo. The men had no uniform. Just high vis jackets. They hurridly fed about 70 meters of cable into the ground. Ran up the other end of the street and pulled some out. Then they tampered with the green box - and then left.

Any thoughts?

Did you take their registration number ? If so, a quick call to the Old Bill would be seen as nothing more than doing your civic duty.

They could be innocent workmen subtracted by one of the utilities or they could be copper thieves.

The coppers will not bill you for your phone call so you have nothing to lose. If you don't make the call and you wake up in the morning with no electricity you only have yourself to blame.

Sounds a bit dodgy to me, call the council or police, if it was a company like Sky or Virgin looking at the green box then they would you would spot it a mile off.

As RT says it could well be copper thieves.

It's not really an emergency so you should probably call 101 and not 999.

They won't be pleased if you dial 999.

It looks odd, so I agree with the others - get their registration number and call the police.

If they were stealing copper cable you probably don't have a landline/internet connection now.

I thought they housed you in a room without windows?
