I don't get why anyone would want to go to a cycling race. You get to see the riders for a split second as they speed past you. What is the point of that?

I have seen the TdF 3 times - each time in the mountain stages in France, and been on Tv twice (Channel 4 via TF1).
It is just amazing to watch and the speed they go at is just fantastic.

You could get your mate to cycle down a hill and get the same effect.
