LOL - to clarify, the novelty of the WII wore of with the kids too - they don't play on it any more...

My console life:

Sega Megadrive > Sony Playstation > Sony Playstation 2 > Microsoft Xbox 360 > Sony Playstation 3 (my current device)

I have also played on other peoples: Xbox, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64 and Nintendo Wii.

I used to love gaming as a kid, not so much these days. I tend to just stick to the Grand Theft Auto games when they come out and obviously sports game like FIFA/PES.

I've used Xbox 360 and the PS3 to play online and I have to say, the Playstation network is free and has never let me down. Xbox however, costs too much and used to crash twice a day as a rule.

I'll be sticking with Playstations in future, that said, like the PS3, I'll probably end up waiting 5 years to get a PS4.

The problem I have with modern games is the lack of playability. Yeah, they all look and sound fantastic, but MarioKart on the Wii is the only game I've ever played regularly.

Yet when I had a Spectrum 48k/Commodore 64/Atari ST/Amiga the graphics were crap but the playability was ace.

With regards to Lt.Boon's post just had a quick think of the machines I have had....

Grandstand Atari5600 Atari7800 C=Vic20 C=64 C=128 C=Amiga500 C=Amiga2500 C=PC SNES
Cube various PC's and laptops

And then I agree with natsha, the graphics were not teh best but gameplay was far superior to what it is today.

I'd rather play Jet Set Willy or Manic Minor or Lemmings then any of the Grand Theft Auto's or wargames anyday!

What modern games are you talking about when you say they "lack playability"

I'll have to disagree with you on that one.

Ok, so I've not played every game out there, but I've had a go on the main Playstation 2 and 3 hits of the last few years. Take the football games for example, they look great but you never feel you have real control - there's little skill involved.

Whereas Kick Off 2 on the ST or Amiga was addictive.

Disagree.

Yeah there is a certain charm to the old arcade games, I'd still say Sonic 2 and Paperboy are some of my favourite games but obviously they're not as good in any way as games like Uncharted 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4.

obviously you haven't played any recent games so...

I am reliably informed that Xbox 360 online is the dogs bollox. And that comes from someone who seems to spend half his day playing on it.

I think modern football games require more skill than any other type of games ive played. Your in total control of everything. The old ones didn't even have a power bar and corners were taken by just pressing a button.

I remember playing the FIFA like ten years ago which had a giant arrow telling your where your freekick would go!
