But he was always in contention for a place under Freedman before his contract drama.
I credit Dougie for his decision to let Davies go in the summer, but not for ousting him from the side completely in recent weeks. Not because it's not a great decision (it absolutely is, albeit long overdue), but because I don't believe it was made on footballing grounds.
Something tells me if things hadn't turned sour, he'd have featured considerably right to the end.
