It depends who you're comparing him too.

Stuart Holden could have been the bargain of the century but for that injury.
A lot of these players disappointed last season and conversely some, like Knight and Alonso did better than expected - and I expect the same scenario next year - we'll be surprised by who comes good and who bombs. I'm tipping Riley to be in contention, despite the arrival of Tierney.
Noticed Gregus hasn't signed as yet - was that deal subject to us getting promotion? Also no mention of the new signings.
Wouldn't say that Odelusi, Clough and Lester have "broken through" as yet but again they may step up next year.

TBF Mears looked good at Burnley, but as an attacking wing back. At Bolton he was asked to defend and was badly exposed by our lightweight midfield. You never know though - he may make an effort to improve himself this year, but with Tierney coming in and Riley developing, he'll have to have an epiphany of some sort.Copper Dragon wrote:
Mears was alright for us, not as good as Trippier but alright.

He never played as a wing back for us Wanderlust but he was definitely an attacking full back.
He was great at that but he did go missing defensively now and then, although he wasn't as atrocious as it seems he has been at Bolton.
I actually thought he would do well for you lot.

He's been a massive disappointment. I know he broke his leg but I can't recall him EVER having a decent game in a Wanderers shirt.
Towards the final third of last season he was on sick leave with a so called blood infection. I don't buy it tbh. I think it was just used as an excuse to save his embarrassment at being dropped by Dougie.
