Tonight, I'm watching Goodbye Lenin, a German film I had to study for my a-level coursework. It's about a woman in East Germany that falls into an eight month coma the day the Berlin Wall fell. The doctors tell her family when she wakes that any shock will kill her, so the film follows them trying to hide the news from her.
It's funny. Probably not as much as the Germans think, but it's good.

What "world cinema" films do you like?

I can't watch films or TV programmes which have subtitles or are dubbed into English.

I did use to like watching The A-Team on a German channel in the Netherlands.

It was dubbed into German and was hilarious and it made it a lot better. Very Happy

A couple of good German films I would recommend are: The Lives of Others and The Baader Meinhof Complex.

I also think a Spanish film called Timecrimes is brilliant. It's one of the best time travel films I've seen.

Yes, the Baader Meinhof Complex is great. I've had Das Leben Der Anderen/The Lives of Others on DVD for years but yet to watch it. A few other crackers are Lola Rennt/Run Lola Run, Der Untergang/The Downfall and Die Fetten Jahre sind Vorbei/The Educators.

Das Boot.

German - The Boat.

Gripping - over 3 hours long and that is just the short version!

See the 'English' version here - no subtitles.

You won't regret it.

Not foreign to you guys, but a foreign film here in the US was Snatch - and in parts it had subtitles because somebody presumed that Americans couldn't understand what the English were saying.

I don't think I've ever watched a non-English foreign film in my life.

If I wanted to read I'd choose a book.

If you find the time to watch The Lives of Others I don't think you will be disappointed.

I recently got "polisse" on DVD... pretty disturbing french film but gripping. Bit silly at times but recommended.
