I saw Rear Window when I was about 15 and thought it was brilliant. Then a couple years ago I watched Psycho and North by Northwest. Again, brilliant.

Hitchcock films really are unbeatable I feel, so I recently went out and bought a shitload of the classics.

Dial M for Murder, Rope, The Man Who Knew Too Much. All brilliant.
The only let down so far has been The Birds which I thought was a bit preposterous.

Obviously you watch films like this and it stands out a mile that they're ancient but there's a novelty to that I think. Can you think of any films from pre-70's shall we say that you could watch over and over?

I agree with you about Hitchcock and I never rated The Birds either.

An all time classic and favourite of mine is Citizen Kane which I am sure you would enjoy.

If you want something lighter I recommend Kind Hearts and Coronets.

i love all the old Charlton Heston epics like Ben Hur and El Cid and all the other epics that they stick on the telly on a Sunday afternoon. A great film i haven't seen for ages is called the Hill and stars Sean Connery. It's set in an Army prison and is fantastic.

Also love all the Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns, i could watch them all day.

I used to love watching Will Hay films when I was a kid.

And all the old Robin Hood / Pirate films of Errol Flynn.

Just to be clear, I meant different films in which he played Robin Hood or a pirate.

Not that Robin Hood & The Pirates wouldn't be a cracking film, I just don't think they made it.

Kes just sneaks in as it was 1969. Apparently, Ken Loach "found" a dead kestrel and placed it in the bin without telling the actor, so the reaction you saw was him thinking the bird he had worked with, and got close to, was actually dead. Likewise in Looking for Eric (too recent to count) he never told the actor that when he turned round, the real, not a look alike, Eric Cantona would be there. Blurs the line between acting, and capturing re action

There was talk of a remake a couple of years back. Steven Spielberg directing  and Tom Hanks playing Elwood. Not sure what happened to it.

There was a TV movie. Think Leslie Nielsen was in it. Don't see the point really.
You can't improve on perfection.

Excellent films all, and to those I would add Billy Liar, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner and the already mentioned A Kind of Loving and Spring and Port Wine.
