I'm sure i've come back to the fucking twilight zone...2 signings on the 1st July and another striker on the 2nd just doesn't happen when it comes to bwfc.

My thoughts too - I'm liking this new BWFC.  Very positive about the coming season.

I'm trying not to build my hopes up too much, this time last year I had us on about 100 points and a +70 goal difference for the season.....that worked out well.

WANDERERS got two more deals over the line yesterday – and are closing in on a third.

On the day that the transfer window officially opened, the club were finally able to unveil ex-Blackpool defender Alex Baptiste and put the finishing touches to a deal for winger Rob Hall from West Ham.

The next man on board should be Jermaine Beckford, who is due to link-up with the team by Friday to travel to their private training camp in La Manga, Spain.

The Leicester City striker has agreed a two-year deal, with a fee reported to be £1million, ending a six-week chase for Freedman, who played alongside Beckford at the end of his own playing career at Leeds United. Sources in the Midlands claim the deal will be announced in the next 48 hours.

Baptiste’s arrival as a first-choice right-back could now hasten the exit of Wales international Sam Ricketts, who remains a target for Wolves.

Baptiste signed a three-year deal and was immediately backed to be a success by Whites legend Neil Whatmore, who has followed his progress since junior football.

The 27-year-old played regularly against Whatmore’s son Matt as a youngster and, claims the former Burnden Park striker, will be a valuable addition to the squad.

“He was always an excellent athlete, although at the age he was playing against my son – 12 or 13 – he actually played as a box-to-box midfielder,” he told The Bolton News.

“Being a local lad from Mansfield I’ve kept a track on his progress and I do think he will be an excellent acquisition for the club.

“Looking from the outside I think full-back is a position that needed strengthening – I have never been a big fan of Tyrone Mears, even though I know he broke his leg and that affected him – and I think Sam Ricketts struggled at times last season too.

“Bap also has those leadership qualities. He was captain at Blackpool and though I don't expect him to go straight in at Bolton, he might well be one for the future.”

Hall arrives from West Ham after spending two months on loan at the Reebok last season.

The 19-year-old played only once for the club, in the final day draw against Blackpool, but had seen his progress checked by a hernia problem.

He also signs a three-year deal, although the fee is yet to be confirmed and will be set by an independent tribunal.

Meanwhile, contrary to reports yesterday, Wanderers are not in the race to sign Mali international midfielder Samba Sow.

Neighbours Blackburn Rovers were also mentioned as a possible destination for the RC Lens man.

Code for he's not good enough.

Surely he's saying he could be a captain in future? He'll be straight into the team.

Baptiste always looked solid when I've seen him, I think he's a big improvement on Mears/Ricketts and probably our best right back in a long time, they tend to be shit.

Pleased to see us bring Hall in too, I'd guess he's come on the premise of more first team action and the fact he believes in Dougie's ability to develop him, I doubt Coyle attracted many with his development skills.

Hall was shocking in his one appearance - madness to sign him.

I doubt Fat Sam would be letting him go if he was any good.

Have you forgotten who Coyle brought in on loan? Obviously attracted someone to get us Wilshere and Sturridge etc. Shame they weren't players we could buy.
Presume signing Hall will finally end speculation about loaning Sterling.

You've missed the point, Coyle managed to loan some good players but did he convince them that he was the man to develop their career? No.

Not that we had much of a chance with Wilshere, but Sturridge wanted to leave but said he had fun playing 5 a side everyday.

Halls dropped a division to sign for us, a big reason will be that he feels Dougie can develop him as a player.

Spearing played under Coyle and Freedman - no mention of him coming back, so did he not think Freedman could develop him?, and now he's had talks with Wigan.

Wigan are reportedly interested in him, typical paper talk considering Coyle's signed him before - this is a long way from being in talks with him. If he dropped to the championship he'd come Bolton.

I'm not too sure you know what you're arguing about to be honest, I haven't said every player who comes on loan to Bolton wants to sign for us. I've said Rob Hall turned down an offer from West Ham to drop a division, leave home and come to us. I think Dougie must have impressed him to do that.

That is indeed one possible reason why Hall came to us, although he may also have taken a wedge of cash and the greater likelihood of getting a regular game into account as well. But it's probably Dougie's youth development skills.

All I'm doing is pointing out that I think it's a factor, and one I don't think Coyle would have delivered on. No need to get sarcastic about it mate, just my opinion.
