Why? Leaving dog shit in the street is far worse than a cigarette butt or a drinks can. It's disgusting, it stinks, it is awful for people to step in and not realise and tread it into their houses, it attracts flies and disease, other dogs can eat it and become ill, very young children could touch it and become ill etc etc.

It's absolutely right that dog shit carries a bigger fine than normal littering.

i don't see why, i'm no expert on poop but i'm guessing it's biodegradable whereas cans stick around for years.

Shit is biodegradeable, but it doesn't biodegrade in the middle of a concrete payment.

If a dog shits on the pavement, it would take months to break down in the rain and so on. It would end up being trod in or cleaned up by the council at tac payers' expense.

So I say hammer the dirty bastards who let their dog shit everywhere. If I caught someone's dog shitting outside my house, I'd follow them home and post it through their letterbox.

Do you seriously think £70:£1000 represents the difference in the damage done by the two offences?

Both cost the taxpayer a similar amount! I personally think litter makes a bigger shit-hole of a town than dog-shit itself does, funnily!

Doff cocker, criminal and civil penalties in this country are not determined in relation to the fiscal damage caused by the offender.

It is the severity of the offence. In my opinion, dog shit is more offensive than a crisp packet. This is also the law's opinion.

I would set the fines at £100 for littering and £500 for dog shit, in answer to your question.

I never said they were or that they should necessarily be. You mentioned that dogs crapping on pavements costs the taxpayer, and I'm only suggesting that the same applies to litterers.

No but you did ask me if I thought the disparity between £70 and £1000 was fair. My answer is that there should be a disparity, but not as large as it is now. Shit is worse than litter.

I lived in a house with a bith of a green on the other side of the fence, and all the dog owners would bring their pets to shit near the fence, away from the footpath, and it stunk. I got so pissed off that I took the hose to the dogs as soon as they got ready to crap. Had a few arguments, but they eventually moved away. Also, the short pieces of Rose stem, with thorns , scattered about the grass, helped to make up the minds of the dogs as well.

If you catch anyone letting their dog shit in your neck of the woods follow the bastards home. Once you have established their address put the offending shit tubes in an empty shoe box. Go back at night and place the shoebox on their doorstep. Light the shoebox and when it is burning nicely, ring their doorbell and scarper pronto.

On opening their front door the natural reaction is to stamp out the shoebox. If they are wearing carpet slippers it's even better. ( You generally find them in their dustbin the following day)

Remove the slippers and leave them at the spot where the shit tube was first deposited and next time they pass the spot it doesn't half put the wind up em.

Haha, that reminds me of the part in Distrubia when the kids do that outside the lads house but he can't chase after them due to him being tagged.

A very nice idea.
