When Dougie Freedman brings Mark Davies back into the first team fold at the end of this year, he wants him for keeps.
Sidelined since February with a serious knee injury, the prized midfielder is getting tantalisingly close to a return to full training.
Last season proved a write-off for playmaker Davies, who suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament just four games into a comeback after shoulder surgery.
“Mark is still a couple of months away before we see him play – maybe towards December,” Freedman said. “But he’s doing very well and coming along at the right pace.
“I don’t put any pressure on him. I don’t want him back in the eighth month if it should take nine months.
“Mark Leather has got that passion, as a Bolton fan, which is like mine. He wants to make sure this kind of thing doesn’t happen again.
“There is no coincidence in my eyes that Mark suffers a shoulder injury and is out for two months and then a couple of days later does his knee.''
“There is a story in there guys. It shouldn’t have happened.”
