Faith may be rapidly running out in some quarters but crucially not in the Wanderers dressing room, according to Tim Ream.
A growing number of Whites fans are becoming disillusioned with the poor start to the season and many let their feelings known after the final whistle on Saturday.
Talk of promotion or even the play-offs has now diminished to a whisper but Ream – whose recent form has been cause for optimism – believes the squad cannot afford to lapse into a negative frame of mind.
“You are always going to get doubters whether you are at the top of the league or where we are right now,” he said. “It’s just a matter of sticking together now and really getting our heads down, continuing to work.
“It will come and only hard work is going to get us through this.
“There isn’t one guy in that dressing room who doesn’t believe we can win games.
“We can’t control what gets said outside of the dressing room.”
Dougie Freedman has said he could look to solve his team’s problem with defending leads by going on the defensive, and his “time out” strategy rings a few bells for American Ream.
“It has been mentioned we might need to change the style a little bit, five to 10 minutes after we score a goal, and get guys tight in defensively,” he said.
“For whatever reason we have given up goals quickly after we score.
“It might be that we need to go more direct and stop teams camping in our half.”
Wanderers have failed to register a win at the Reebok since the tail end of last season and their failures have come as a surprise to Ream.
His unbeaten run alongside Matt Mills at centre-half may have continued but the former New York Red Bulls man found little reason to celebrate a point.
“It does feel like a frustrating result,” he said.
“There is a little bit of pressure at home but it’s more what we put on ourselves.
“It’s a talented group and we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to go and win games. We are not doing that so it grows.
“Everyone is a little bit surprised. With the talent we have and guys who can take over games it’s just a bit difficult to swallow. Again it only comes down to everyone working hard and pulling in the same direction – all 18-25 guys.”
