I will never forget when he turned on the fans after the Blackburn game and tarred everyone with the same brush!
As a manager, you shouldn't be getting personal like that with your own fans.

Same here, there are much worse managers managing at a higher level than Megson is, if he takes the Scunthorpe job. Just because megson is hated mainly because of his personality, this doesn't mean he's a bad manager.scottjames30 wrote:Good manager Megson, wish him luck.

Coyle and Megson got poor value in equal measure.scottjames30 wrote:Brighter? Owen Coyle made some stupid signing and not only that, he gave them contracts for five years so we couldn't get rid, cheers Owen.doffcocker wrote:I could go on all day about Megson's persistence with mindless tactics and poor use of resources. He didn't get us relegated where Coyle did because the job was easier, not because he was brighter.
It's a question of when it was best to take over.
a ) October 2007, £40m+/- to invest, wage bill flexibility 50%
b ) January 2010, £20m+/- to invest, wage bill flexibility 0%
Some people would have you believe Megson took over a squad of past its and left Coyle with one brimming with bright young talent. Actually, the average age of the squad didn't change between those dates and several of the 07/08 squad continued to play at the top level for a number of years. One of them is currently competing near the top of Serie A. The 07/08 squad was one that had had a stinking first 10 games thanks to Sammy Lee's totally simplistic approach. It happens. Countless others have started as bad or worse and stayed up. A win on Megson's opening game would have lifted us out of the bottom three, just to illustrate the root to oblivion that team was on.
You could speculate forever about individual decisions from Coyle that were mindless as you could Megson. It still doesn't answer the question of how things would have been different if the circumstances were reversed.
