Homosexual Thomas Hitzlsperger has announced to the world that he is gay.

Big fucking deal.

What an absolute twat. Not because he is gay, but because he's announced it AFTER he retired from playing football.

It simply isn't relevant anymore now that he's not part of the dressing room environment. How is this going to encourage homosexual players to come out while they are playing? The simple fact is, it isn't.

This is just a publicity stunt to get himself on Match of the Day or Sky as a pundit. What a twat.

I wish homosexuals would just keep their mouths shut. It's 2014, no one really gives a shit anymore. Being gay is no different than being straight these days, and you don't see people coming out saying "I'm straight!".

Whittam, if you were part of a netball team, and would undress and shower with your teammates on a weekly basis as you banter about men, would you feel comfortable being a lesbian and have them suddenly know about it?

It's a very difficult situation for people to be in.

It helps makes it more acceptable within the sport and easier for those in future to come out should they want to. There's no negative side to this.

The above might be true if he'd come out while playing, but by coming out after retiring he's saying "...don't you dare be gay while competing or working".

It would have been a bigger thing had he come out while playing you're right. But it still makes it easier for other in future, the more common it becomes for footballers to come out. There's bound to be plenty more.
