Jermaine Beckford faces a spell on the sidelines after limping out of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

The Wanderers striker pulled up with a hamstring injury after 30 minutes and will see a specialist today to find out the full extent of the problem.

Dougie Freedman was looking on the bright side after the game, and while he did not expect Beckford to spend too long out of action, he admitted the chances of him facing Reading next weekend were slim.

“He said to me he felt his hamstring when he back-heeled the ball,” he explained. “But it wasn’t when he was running so my experience tells me it’s a smaller grade. Hopefully, we will get away with a week to 10 days after he has seen the doctor.”

Freedman reckoned that Beckford’s withdrawal after half an hour – which forced him to bring on Andre Moritz and change his system slightly – played into Forest’s hands.

“I started with two ‘high’ strikers and even though I consider Andre to be a striker I think if Jermaine had been on the pitch, he could have sniffed around with a couple of the chances that were flashing around the box in the second half.”

With Craig Davies still short of fitness, Freedman could have just one option up front for next weekend game against Reading in David Ngog.

“I’m down to bare bones but that’s fine by me as long as I have got bones and I can get the bones out there,” he smiled. “I will try and recruit. It's not a lack of trying but it has to be at the right deal."

Give the lad a chance, he's only had 6 months to get fit.

we need to get a striker in from somewhere or bring back Eaves or Sordell for cover. We can't rely on Ngog to score a bagful thats for sure.

It's a problem. Ngog has been far more prolific than Eaves or Sordell and f*** knows what's happening with Cavies. Maybe it's time for something different like giving Clough or another young striker a shot at it?

Sordell has a better goal-per-game ratio than Ngog.
