How can Queen be "overrated" when they're the seventh best selling artist of all time?
It's like saying Brazil are over-rated at football or Shakespeare is overrated at writing plays.

You mean, you don't like them, or you don't think they are very good.
But they are not over rated in general, they're the third biggest band of all time after The Beatles and Led Zep in terms of album sales.

My daughter was into Evan when she was about 12 and to me it was a bit like recycled 80s indie. Still each to his own. Agree about the Kinks - some waffly crap but some classic tunes and would have made top ten all time if they hadn't f***** up their American tour.

I always rated Queen. I wasn't that keen on Oasis but you can't argue with their success.

On a personal level i just dont rate them at all.I dislike may,s guitar sound with a vengence. I do feel they are overated as well compared with bands like the who and police.Thats my own opinion.I also bracket them with u2 who i cant stand.Nope dont rate the zep either or that beatles- kinks copy band oasis.largehat wrote:Angry Dad wrote:They are, i prefer Holland and ernie wise plays.largehat wrote:How can Queen be "overrated" when they're the seventh best selling artist of all time?

I don't like Queen's music and since they are massively popular that makes them overrated in my book.
Underrated - a band called Spirit. The 4 albums they released between 1968 and 1970 are all great but I'm probably the only poster on this site who has even heard of them.

Overated: Arctic Monkeys and any person that got famous by the appearing on a talent show, especially Cher Lloyld and him that has murdered the White Stripes Seven Nation Army.
Underated: James. Millionaires is probably the greatest album ever produced.

Sad to say, I have a Spirit album and they also appear on Fill Your Head With Rock which was a CBS sampler from the early 70s which I also have.
Liked the sampler albums just for their randomness. FYHWR also had Leaonard Cohen, Lauro Nyro, Blood Sweat and Tears and Santana on it as I recall - a bit of something for everyone.

I've had a (very good) back massage from their lead singer - they were regulars in my restaurant in the late 80s/early 90s as was Morrissey. No bodily fluids were exchanged. Liked the lads, music so-so IMO.OneOinCoyle wrote:

Nice to know I'm not alone here. Which one do you have?
FTHWR was the third sampler album CBS released. The first and second were The Rock Machine Turns You On and Rock Machine I Love You. Wikipedia has the details if you are interested.
CBS actually brought a number of these acts over to promote them and I remember seeing Santana top a bill with Taj Mahal and It's a Beautiful Day at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
