Wanderers’ development squad face their Manchester United counterparts on Monday evening looking to book their place in the last four of the Lancashire FA Senior Cup.
Having secured their berth in the quarter finals courtesy of a memorable 7-2 victory over Blackpool back in October – a game which saw striker Conor Wilkinson hit four for the club’s youngsters – the Whites will be aiming for a repeat performance against the Red Devils at Altrincham FC’s Moss Lane stadium.
Heading into the clash off the back of successive defeats against Everton and Reading, Wanderers will no doubt be eager to put their league exploits to one side and continue their impressive cup form.
They will however come up against a United side who have won their last five games including a 3-0 victory away at Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out.
The two teams have already met twice previously this season, once in the league and once in the Manchester Senior Challenge Cup – clashes which yielded 4-1 and 4-0 victories for the Old Trafford youngsters.
Two results which the Whites will undoubtedly be eager to avenge, they will be hoping that the impressive form of striker Georg Iliev continues with the frontman having found the back of the net five times in his last three outings.
