I know we already have a racing thread but I think this calls for one of its own.

I always put £5-£10 on, even though I don't really care for horse racing. I put a quid each way on one at 66-1 that came 2nd-4th last year, so I'm feeling confident this time round for the first time ever.

It seems Bolton are always at home on Grand National weekend, I'm glad we're not this year.

Are you putting a bet on?

I'll be placing a bet, I usually opt for something around the 14-1 mark (won once I think)

Betting online means I can leave my choices pretty late, and I usually have a pile of bets to put on for friends and family who all suddenly become racing fans. I normally have a fiver each way at most and never back anything under 25/1.

I feel your pain.

Saturday morning I'll be in Done's with about forty quid in pound coins that I've been given by various family members who wouldn't know Ruby Walsh from Ruby Murray and loads of pieces of paper with various cryptic clues on them.

By that I mean, scraps of paper with things like "That brown one with the blue shirt" and "Whatever that Irish Jockey who wins quite a lot is driving" written on them......

Not only that Bread, but the moment you get in the shop you're usually accosted by some old biddy who doesn't even know which end of the pen to write with and expects you to write the bet our for her! Online betting is the future.

I had a row with the woman in the Tote last year because I wrote all my slips out and she demanded that I transfer them all onto one of those bloody Grand National Quickslips.

I argued that I'd been writing my betting slips out the same way for 25 years and didn't see why I should change now and start using something designed to make it easier for the novice punter on National day.

But she wouldn't have it, so I stormed out in a huff like a right big jessy.......

And gave all my money to Uncle Fred instead........

I get my own back by stealing their pens. I've got hundreds of 'em. And the betting slips make great jotters.

Wayward Prince and something Star are the horses I got at the sweepstake at work.

No doubt one will fall at the 1st and the other will have 3 fucking legs.

I'd normally have a bet on the National, as I have a pretty decent record in picking winners, but I've had a quick gander at the 40 runners this year and about half the bloody field have a decent chance, so I might give it a miss this year.

* I drew Triolo D'Alene in the sweep at work.

Tell me about it.......

Mrs B's just gone to bed and left me with her choices for tomorrow.

She stunned me by saying "I want two quid on Long Run because it's top weight and that means it's a good horse."

After I'd picked myself up off the floor I asked her if she understood what she'd just said.

She looked blank at first and then repeated it.

I thought for a second then asked "Did a bloke at work tell you that, love?"

She replied "Yes. Is that right or was he taking the piss?"

God only knows what the mother in law's going to come up with in the morning when she comes round to go shopping with her.........
