Coventry City are monitoring Bolton Wanderers’ Tom Eaves with a view to making a move for the striker in the summer.
The 22-year-old is currently on loan at the Sky Blues’ League One rivals Shrewsbury Town where he has scored two goals in 20 appearances.
Although not a prolific goal scorer to date, the strong and powerful 6ft 3inch tall centre-forward is seen as a potential target man and future foil for Callum Wilson who hasn’t had that type of partner up front since Leon Clarke joined Wolves.
It is believed that no firm decision has yet been made whether to pursue the interest but the Telegraph understands the Sky Blues have made tentative inquiries with the Trotters about his availability at the end of the season, and will continue to monitor his progress as he plays out the remainder of the season with the struggling Shrews.
A good age and still developing as a player, Eaves is a rarity in terms of his style and stature at this level who would be within City’s price range either as a permanent signing or a season-long loan.
Eaves has another year to run at the Reebok Stadium but it’s unclear at this stage whether he figures in manager Dougie Freedman’s plans at the Championship club that has ambitions of getting back to the Premier League after a two-year absence.
