Wanderers’ development squad will be aiming to book their place in the final of the Lancashire FA Senior Cup this Thursday afternoon as they make the short journey to neighbours Wigan Athletic.
Having booked their last four berth with a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Manchester United in the last round of the competition – a game which saw the Whites notch a 90th minute equaliser courtesy of Zach Clough to force spot-kicks – the club’s youngsters come up against their Latics counterparts looking to continue their fine cup form this season.
Wanderers also recorded an incredible 7-2 victory over Blackpool in the first round of the tournament back in October of last year, with frontman Conor Wilkinson notching four times at a rain sodden Squires Gate Training Ground.
Wigan on the other hand have endured just one clash in the competition, but it was certainly a memorable one for the Latics as they ran out 5-4 winners against Preston North End back in November.
