Wanderers used an agent featured on Panorama for accepting “bungs” to help in the search for a new manager, a court heard.
Mark Curtis, a former agent for Sam Allardyce and Gary Megson, helped find a successor to Sammy Lee in 2007.
Mr Curtis, who Mr Gartside said was not paid though he later was employed on a consultancy basis to recruit players, then recommended the club appoint Mr Megson, pictured, which they did.
Mr Gartside said he was aware that Mr Curtis had a “chequered” history but insisted he was not aware of most of the things being alleged.
Mr Gartside was also quizzed in court over his involvement on the board of the FA, at one stage the only Premier League chairman to sit on it.
He said the position brought “no extra pressure” to be “whiter-than-white”, as put to him by Martin Budworth, representing Tony McGill who is suing Mr Gartside and Wanderers for cutting him out of a transfer.
