Maybe Wood, no chance of the other two though.

It's definitely Freedman holding things up, not anything else

Freedman should stop pissing about and deck Pearson. Then he should chinese burn him until he gives us Wood and agrees to pay his wages whilst giving us the option to sign him for a tenner if we like him. Proper negotiation.
Man up Freedman.
Being skint is no excuse for failing to sign top players.

Already said it will be last minute i.e. end of the month - if we get anyone at all. Beggars can't be choosers etc.

We won't have anybody in place before the big kick off and reading this, I think it'll be Beckford on his own up front until further notice and fingers crossed that we can secure a cast-off from somewhere else who isn't too much of a gamble before the window slams shut:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I firmly believe the days of us targeting specific players are long gone because we simply have no money to approach other teams and make offers and we are now totally and utterly reliant on picking up players after they've been cast out by their parent clubs.

Hardly inspiring......

But realistic.
And at least Dougie isn't going for the panic buys that previous managers have -although that is worrying!

Dougie says:
“I will take a calculated risk and go a little short for the first three or four games up front, giving myself a bit of space money-wise to get the right players in.”
As sensible as that approach is, it will do nothing but incite the moaners.

He can't make the same mistakes that Coyle et al made (Sordell, Ngog, etc) because there's simply no money to do it.

Do you think if he had £5m for a striker, he wouldn't have spent it by now?

Even if it was on his fifth choice option who was potentially a bit of a gamble?

As for his bit:

“I will take a calculated risk and go a little short for the first three or four games up front, giving myself a bit of space money-wise to get the right players in.”

The cynic in me translates that as:

"We've no money. At all......Therefore, I've no choice other than to sit at the back of the room quietly, waiting for everybody else to conduct their business and hopefully, when they're done, there will be someone available who is dirt cheap (or free) and I will step in and hope they want to come and play for us for next to nothing."

I'm not saying it's his fault, nor am I demanding that we go out and mortgage what little we've got left in terms of assets in order to generate some cash but I am a little disappointed that we're not being more proactive in trying to get someone in.

Perhaps from abroad.

What's the scouting network been doing all Summer?

There must be an alternative to sitting waiting for crumbs to fall off the table....?

And  when his calculated risk fails, which, more that likely it will, then he will deserve all the shit that the moaners throw at him, all this bollocks about getting business done early, what a load of shit, if he spent as much time doing his job properly rather than trying to make up excuses for the CLUBS lack of ambition we might have a half decent team!!!!!!!  ::mad::

We made 7 signings before July, so all the facts would say it's not bullshit Bryan.

As for waiting for targets, that's the reality of the situation, compare us to any other club with the same financial issues and it's painfully obvious. We don't have enough players of any value that we can flog to generate funds, we are stuck waiting. If we wait and get Chris Wood I won't give a shit because he's worth it.

I don't think you're being cynical at all Bread, I think that's exactly how it is.
Dougie has been dealt a shit hand and everyone is frustrated by his lack of buying power.

You ask what the scouts have been doing? There job it would seem - as from what I can pick up they've lined up loads of alternatives who have fallen by the wayside because of price.
Dougie clearly doesn't want to panic and buy crap - but finding real talent we can afford is a monumental task. Plus whenever it gets out we're interested in a player he is immediately priced out of our reach.

I'd love to think we could find another Eidur Gudjohnssen playing in some obscure league and buy him for £300k but finds like that just don't happen any more as kids are scouted from the age of 8.

And I don't know how it's possible to "be more proactive" when you haven't got a pot to piss in and nobody wants to sell us the players we want at a price we can afford.

The sad thing is that our fate is in the hands of others - and they know it.

Scouts are on school holidays over the summer.
I would have been a scout if it hadn't been for the 68 brownie incident when I was a cub.

Even so what have they been doing for so long. DF said he wants to play his preferred two up top but he's been here how long and not even sorted it out yet. It's not unique to this season. Yes you have to sort the rest but to score goals you need mmm.

Bottom Sat night anybody ?

I think your Dougie on the quiet???????
our priority from January to the end of the season was a left back, so Dougie brought in 2 strikers and Liam Trotter?????

our priority since the end of last season has been a striker/s, and he has signed!!!!!!!!!!

Lusty,

You say: "You ask what the scouts have been doing? There job it would seem - as from what I can pick up they've lined up loads of alternatives who have fallen by the wayside because of price."

What proof have you got that this is the case?

I'm not trying to be contentious, I'm just asking where you're getting your info from because I would love to know which players we've been pursuing this summer and other than the veiled, cryptic "3-2-1" style mumblings from Nixon, I've heard nothing concrete.....

Another name to keep an eye on regarding our young strike target from the prem is James Wilson

Is it because he scored 4 for the reserves recently?
